Saltwater Clown Fish

The saltwater clown fish is a tropical fish that lives along with the anemone in the ocean. Usually the saltwater clown fish prefers to stay near the anemone for protection. They are beautiful specimens and make rewarding captives and the good thing about that is that they actually manage to survive in captivity. Nonetheless if you choose to purchase a saltwater clown fish you should give him at least an anemone or a coral because like any other wild life it needs his natural habitat. If you cannot provide an anemone or a coral then you should at least give the clown fish a substitute so he will have were to hide. An overturned flowerpot or some rockwork can be sufficient for the fish to feel protected.

In their natural habitat the saltwater clown fish will actually defend their anemone and the anemone will protect the clown fish in troublesome situations. They usually can tolerate other clown fish but only when they are juveniles. They see the anemone as their territory and can become very territorial and defensive as they reach maturity. This is why it is better to purchase a mating pair or just a single clown fish in case you decide you want a saltwater clown fish for your aquarium.

The saltwater clown fish measures between 7 and 9 centimeters and usually have bright orange and white colors. The thin back bands separate the three bands of white from the orange coloration. The middle band has a big white spot that curves itself to the middle of the body. The other bands have straight edges. The tips of the fins are edged in the backside and unlike other fish have double dorsal and anal fins.
